Board President
Monique Vallery became involved with Homicide Survivors after the death of her sister-in-law Sheyla. She has been on the Board of Directors of Homicide Survivors since 2016. Her commitment to the board is to try and pay forward the kindness and support that she and her family have received from HSI.

Kevin graduated from Barton College in Wilson, NC & is currently a media specialist for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. With over 12 years of media experience, he hopes to bring that knowledge to help HSI in it’s mission as a victims’ advocate leader in Pima County.
Treasurer
Nogales native Jose Escalante is bilingual and a graduate of the Accounting Department at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. For over a decade, he has provided services to individuals, private businesses, healthcare institutions, non-profits, governmental entities, and casinos. With his financial experience, he hopes to bring general financial advice and strategies for a bright financial future at HSI.

Sara has a background in digital forensics and has served in philanthropy her entire life. She first became involved with Homicide Survivors in 2005 when she and her family received advocacy and support services after her father was killed by a drunk driver. She previously served on the Board of Directors for five years and just rejoined us in 2022 to continue our mission of meeting the crisis and long-term needs of families of homicide victims through support, advocacy, and assistance.

Matt is a Tucson native who served as a Combat Medic in the United States Army for five years (1998-2003). Matt graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arizona; Rogers College of Law in May of 2014. He was named the Jim Himelic Award winner for his dedication to the community and the Rose Davis Public Service Award winner for his leadership and service. He is the managing partner of Randle, Palmer, and Bernay’s, a law firm focused on Juvenile and Family Law representation. Matt’s hobbies include spending time with his wife and children, golfing and rooting for U of A athletics.

Captain Stacie Schaner joined the Tucson Police Department in 2004. She has worked in a variety of assignments, such as Juvenile Liaison Officer, Criminal Intelligence Officer, Human Resources, Internal Affairs, Patrol Services Executive Officer, and the Community Engagement Division and more. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Physiological Sciences in 2002. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing soccer, trail running, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Join us on Saturday, September 21st to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance with a survivor picnic to honor loved ones lost to violence in our community. The event will include food, drinks, and a craft activity for you to take home.
